Varela Tosses Shutout Against Serranos Saturday, August 16th , 1913 Aimón Varela kept the Utuado Serranos hitters from doing much damage at Parquecito de Utuado. Utuado could only muster 2 hits and draw 2 walks against the right-handed Varela, who controlled them throughout the game. Barranquitas won the contest, 3-0. Varela added 4 strikeouts in his complete-game effort. "I don't know if I was on or if they were off today," Varela told reporters after the shutout win. "But whatever it was, I hope it happens again next time." So far this season, Varela has logged a 2-5 record with a 3.30 ERA.
