Haertel Has Hot Hand, Bangs 5 hits Thursday, August 21st , 1913 Luquillo Comecocos right fielder Derrick Haertel had a day to remember at Parquecito de Río Grande, ripping apart the Rio Grande Zarzas and sparking the 5-1 Comecocos win. Haertel wrote his name in the record books with a 5-hit barrage, finishing his special day 5-for-5. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Haertel told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid it." Derrick Haertel singled in the 2nd, doubled in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and hit an RBI single in the 9th. This season, Haertel is batting .237 with 6 home runs.
