5-Hit Game for Liz
Tuesday, August 19th , 1913
Francisco Liz got the glory and the headlines, but the Ljubljana Zmaji left with the win. The Salzburg first baseman easily handled the Zmaji pitching, going 5-for-6, but his Salzburg Wunderkinder came out on the short end of the 10-9 score.
Liz told BNN reporters in the postgame interview he would happily trade "three or four" of his hits for a win.
"Heck, maybe even all of them," he said with a laugh. "Right now, it just seems like one loss in a long season but who knows what it could mean at the end."
Francisco Liz doubled in the 2nd, hit a three-run home run off Matej Pahor in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, struck out in the 6th, singled in the 8th and singled in the 11th.
So far this season, Liz has 6 home runs and a .319 batting average.
