The Niigata right fielder had a fantastic 5-for-6 day against the Hakodate Daiouika, leading his club to victory, 17-4. "I was seeing the ball very well and it was going just about anywhere I wanted," Gessler said later." Doc Gessler hit a solo-shot off Mark Davies in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 5th and singled in the 8th.
