It's Over! Yamatokoriyama Defeats Niigata Tuesday, September 1st , 1914 The Yamatokoriyama Kingyo ignited a huge celebration as they beat the Niigata Hakuchoh 6-0 to win the Japan Series. Yamatokoriyama won the series 4-2, capturing the title for the 2nd time. "We stepped it up at the right time, and now we're the champs," said Yamatokoriyama manager Mike Mansell. "It's a great feeling." The champs finished the regular season 70-56 and claimed second place in the Southern League. In the jubilant clubhouse after the decisive game, series MVP and second baseman Fergus Lynch said the Kingyo have "great fans and they deserve this." "I am so happy for our city right now," he said.
