Kirby Gives Thunder Bay Goose Eggs
The Thunder Bay Sleeping Giants had no answer for Nipissing Air Marshals pitcher Matt Kirby. They failed to score a single run against him, losing, 1-0. Thunder Bay managed only 6 hits off Kirby, who had 10 strikeouts.

The extraordinarily popular Kirby got a standing ovation from the hometown crowd as he left the field, the applause continuing until he returned from the dugout to tip his cap to the crowd.

"Air Marshals fans are the best fans, in my opinion," he said. "It's a great feeling to throw a shutout under any circumstances, but to do it with the crowd behind you like that is just incredible."

Kirby has posted a 19-12 record for the year with a 2.44 ERA. Teams are hitting .238 against him and he has rung up 260 strikeouts in 258 innings.
