Cerros Suffer 3-1 Setback
|
At Coliseo Álvaro Santana, the Jayuya Cerros and Villalba Mercaderes were greeted by an enthusiastic crowd.
Starting pitcher Eusebio González gave the Villalba Mercaderes a rock-solid performance, helping them defeat the Jayuya Cerros, 3-1, in 11 innings. The Mercaderes sit in third place in the Liga Hostos Metro Sur with a record of 82-86.
Villalba used the timely hitting of Wahid bin Ubadah to seize the win. The center fielder stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th inning to put the Mercaderes on top, 2-1. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Eusebio did a nice job," said Mercaderes manager John Dolan.
