Picudos Clip Combatientes in Tight Contest, 2-1

The Ceiba Picudos got a stellar effort from pitcher Uranio Mata, helping Ceiba score a win over the visiting Cabo Rojo Combatientes, 2-1. Alfredo Flores, 6-7, earned the win in relief. He allowed no runs on 1 hit in 2 innings. Santiago Castañeda got the save, the 8th for him this season.
Had Jesús María Cabrera not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Cabrera hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 2-1, in favor of the Picudos.
"We all want to win," said Mata. "We all want to do our part."
The 'W' lifts Ceiba's record to 56-86.
