The Toa Alta Poetas downed the Cayey Cornupetas, 6-4, at Estadio Israel "Sabio" García. The Poetas were led by Carlos Hammer. Hammer went 2 for 3 with a home run and a walk. He drove in 2 runs and scored once. Jerónimo Rosas got the win, improving to 14-9. He pitched 6 innings, giving up 7 hits and 4 runs, while striking out 3 and walking 4. Luis Amador earned the save for Toa Alta, his 16th.
Hammer contributed a big hit, a 2-run home run, for Toa Alta in the bottom of the second. With his team trailing 2-1, Hammer took a curveball from Graciano Marcano and stroked the home run to left. His 1st home run of the season allowed the Poetas to leap in front, 3-2.
"It was a good night for them and a bad night for us," said Cayey manager Tarquino Santa Cruz.
Toa Alta sits in second place in the Liga Hostos Metro Oeste at 70-72.
