Mercaderes Walk It Off for 73rd Win of Season
The Mercaderes grabbed a win, 4-3, at Estadio Hernán Ríos, overcoming a fine effort from Carolina pitcher Lennon Robertson. Robertson went 10 innings and allowed 2 runs. The win belonged to Polideuco Quiros in relief. His record improves to 6-1. Carl Gillen took the loss for Carolina. The win puts the Mercaderes at 73-78, while the Tumbabrazos drop to 73-79.

Batting in the bottom of the 14th, 29-year old catcher Matthieu Desbois had a real shot to win the game. Carolina pitcher Carl Gillen was determined not to let it happen. But with two outs, Desbois hit a run-scoring single. The Mercaderes had a walk-off triumph.

Carolina manager Alonso Salinas said he was "mildly disappointed" with the loss. "We had our opportunities, but we didn't take advantage of them," he said.
