The rain could not keep the home crowd from enjoying a good ballgame.

Vega Baja picked up a win at Estadio Mateo Silva, bumping off the Hormigueros Romeros, 4-3. Pitcher Fernando Fontánez was a major reason the Caneros emerged victorious. At 81-69, the Caneros claim first place in the Liga Betances Costa Norteña.

Had Miguel Valencia not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and a runner on 2nd, Valencia hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 4-3, in favor of the Caneros.

"We're all smiles after that win," Fontánez told the Vega Baja News.
