Villa Leads Barceloneta to 8-0 Win Over Sabana Grande
|
The Sabana Grande Tejedores were almost helpless in their 8-0 loss to the Barceloneta Marineros and hurler José Villa. Villa kept the Tejedores confused all game, spinning a 5-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Villa," Sabana Grande manager Bernal Echevana said in a postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 24-year-old right-hander had 1 walk and no strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Villa said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
So far in 9 appearances this season, Villa has recorded 6 wins and sustained 3 losses. He has pitched 77 innings, yielded 54 hits, fanned 22 and has a 0.82 ERA.
