Matadioses Suffer One-Run Loss at Cayey
|
La Plaza de Cayey featured a tense pitchers' duel.
In a low-scoring affair between the Cayey Cornupetas and the Anasco Matadioses, pitcher Toribio Garza was the difference between victory and defeat. The Cayey right-hander earned accolades for his stellar performance in the 2-1 Cornupetas win. Sarpedón Rodríguez recorded the save. In save chances, he's now 25 for 28.
Romualdo Hernández, who finished 2nd in the LB in RBI with 138 last year, took Anasco hurler Premislao Tijerina deep in the bottom of the third. His solo home run put the Cornupetas on top, 2-1. In all, Hernández had 1 single in addition to the home run, while going 2 for 4.
"Win or lose, we always try to grind it out and stay even-keeled," Garza said in reaction to the win.
Today's win puts Cayey at 88-73, while Anasco falls to 83-79.
