Pagán goes 3-for-5 in Toa Alta Win
|
The Toa Alta Poetas defeated the Villalba Mercaderes, 8-1, in part because of right fielder Tomás Pagán. Pagán went 3 for 5 with a home run and a triple. He drove in 6 runs and scored once for the Poetas. Luis Amador closed out the game, earning his 18th save. Toa Alta is in second place in the Liga Hostos Metro Oeste with a record of 79-84.
With Toa Alta leading 5-1 in the top of the ninth, Pagán came up to bat against Villalba pitcher Romualdo Rivera. Pagán hit a fastball to right-center for a bases-clearing triple. His 16th triple of the season put the Poetas on top, 8-1.
"I just try to go out and give it 100 percent every game," Pagán told a local reporter after the game. "That's my mantra, and like today, it will pay off more often than not."
