Corozal Mofongueros starter Leonel Alvarrán had all his pitches working at Coliseo Paulino Soto. His stellar performance paved the way for an easy 8-2 Corozal win over the Gurabo Tainos. Alvarrán, now 23-11, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 11 hits, while striking out 5, walking 0, and allowing 2 runs. Corozal currently is in first place in the Liga Hostos Cordillera Este at 95-69.
Corozal designated hitter Benicio Gerónimo contributed a timely at-bat in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, he hit a cutter to left field for a 2-run single. It was his 155th hit of the season and put the Mofongueros ahead, 5-0.
"Leonel did a heck of a job," said Corozal manager Ramón Orosco.
