Cuervos Win 4-3 Walk-Off
|
Two good teams met in a late-season showdown.
The Rio Grande Cotorras got a superb performance from pitcher Pedro González, but the Patillas Cuervos still won the game, 4-3. González threw 5.2 innings of 2-hit ball. Edan O'Sullivan got credit for the win, improving to 7-0. He allowed no runs on no hits in 1.1 innings.
The Cuervos were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when eight-time All-Star Elías Luévano landed a big blow. He turned a 1-1 fastball from Hansel Portuondo into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Campo Atletico de San Benito denizens into a frenzy and sent the Cuervos home with a thrilling 4-3 win.
Luévano said this kind of win gives the team "a buzz."
The first-place Cuervos, at 116-52, lead the Liga Betances Sureste by 24 games.
