Esqueletos Snatch Late Win
|
The Vieques Esqueletos beat the Yabucoa Dulceros, 6-4, at Estadio Teodosio Martínez. The win was due in part to left fielder René Romero, who went 4-4 with 4 singles and a walk. Vieques reliever Gustavo Guzmán picked up the win, raising his record to 2-2. Fintan Williams was tagged with the loss. Vieques, at 69-99, holds down third place in the Liga Hostos Archipiélago.
Vieques used the timely hitting of Higinio Meza to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the eighth inning to put the Esqueletos on top, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"Winning is hard sometimes," said Esqueletos manager Leo Rosales. "This one was nice to get."
