The Barranquitas Ilustres could not turn a fine performance from pitcher Afrodisio Alcalá into a win. Instead, the Vieques Esqueletos prevailed, 4-2. Alcalá threw 7.2 innings allowing 4 runs. Daniel Juma was the winner. He's now 1-6. The loser was 37-year old right-handed pitcher Afrodisio Alcalá. Picking up the save was Senén Ortega, his 2nd.
With one out in the bottom of the fourth, Pascual Romero put Vieques in front, 2-1, with a run-scoring single. The Esqueletos went on to win the ballgame.
Romero said, "Whether you hit the ball hard, you walk, you have a long at-bat, 10 or 12 pitches, or you hit a homer, you're just trying to do anything you can do to help the team win."
The Esqueletos are off to a tough start, getting just their 11th win in 33 games.
