Conditions were not ideal but Marquette and Superior were able to put their game in the books.

The Marquette Smelters defeated the Superior Whalebacks, 6-5, in 10 innings. M. Izquierdo led the way, going 2-for-4 for Marquette. Marquette reliever Absalón Músquez was the winner. His record is now 1-0. The losing pitcher was Chris Brierley.

Vince Brookshire came through with a big-time hit for Marquette. The pinch hitter smacked a solo home run in the top of the tenth inning to give his team the lead, 6-5. It was his only hit, but it was clutch.

Brookshire told a Marquette Times reporter that he felt "euphoric" after the win.

The loss drops Superior to 7-6.
