Riding the 4-hit performance of the 26-year old right fielder Diodoro Ortega, the Bay City Sugar Beets stopped the Mackinac Island Stone Skippers, 10-2. Jose Fernandez got credit for the win, improving to 5-3. He allowed 2 runs on 6 hits in 8.2 innings. The Sugar Beets, at 12-25, sit in 4th place in the Western Great Lakes Association League of Lake Huron.

With Bay City leading 6-0 in the bottom of the seventh, Ortega came up to bat against Mackinac Island pitcher Enrique Ocampo. Ortega hit a splitter to left for a bases-clearing triple. His 3rd triple of the season put the Sugar Beets on top, 9-0.

"Not much to say," Mackinac Island manager Ron Horne said, when asked afterward about the defeat.
