Whalebacks Suffer 3-2 Road Loss
|
The bats were silent much of the day at Pig Iron Stadium. But 32-year old first baseman M. Izquierdo produced just enough offense to carry the Smelters past the Superior Whalebacks, 3-2. Izquierdo was 3-3 with 3 singles and a walk. The win puts the Smelters at 30-21, while the Whalebacks drop to 23-28.
Had Jonathon Williamson not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the seventh, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Williamson hit a run-scoring single. That made the score 3-2, in favor of the Smelters.
"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Izquierdo.
