Blast Furnaces Knock Off Wanderers, 4-3
|
Escanaba first baseman Uriel Álvarez had a good game in a losing cause. His team fell, 4-3, to Gary at Roaring Dan Seavey Stadium. Álvarez went 3 for 5 with a home run and a double, while scoring 2 runs and driving in 2. Gilberto Moreira picked up the win with 6.2 innings of work. He allowed 3 runs on 10 hits, while walking 2 and striking out 7. On the season, he is now 2-1. Felipe González got credit for the save for Gary. It was his 3rd of the year.
The Blast Furnaces got a big hit from catcher Corey Day. In the top of the sixth, Day smacked a 2-run home run off Escanaba pitcher Bartolomé Martín. It was his 5th home run of the season. Suddenly, the Blast Furnaces were ahead, 4-3.
"I thought we competed really well," said Blast Furnaces manager Eduardo Rivera. "I thought the energy was really good."
The loss makes Escanaba 21-34.
