The Bay City Sugar Beets withstood an impressive performance by Alpena second baseman Tomás Velásquez to defeat the Partridges, 12-11, at Candysweet Park. Velásquez was 4-5 with 2 doubles and 2 singles, while scoring 2 times. Their 37-27 record puts the Sugar Beets second in the Western Great Lakes Association League of Lake Huron.

The game was decided with one out in the bottom of the tenth. With Bay City trailing 11-10, Joe Lyons hit a fastball from Jaime Sepúlveda to left-center for a 2-run single. Just like that, the Sugar Beets had a walk-off win.

"What a game," said Lyons. "We needed every last run."
