Wet weather did not postpone the Derry-Concord ballgame.
In a low-scoring contest between the Derry Spuds and the Concord Stagecoaches, Santiago Gámez, who is tied for 8th in the NNEA in strikeouts with 172, proved to be the difference. The Derry right-hander earned props for his performance in the 3-1 Spuds win. Gámez, now 12-11, was the winner. In 8 innings, he gave up 9 hits, while striking out 4, walking 3, and allowing 1 run.
Carmelo Gómez helped the cause in the bottom of the second. With the bases loaded, he grounded out, driving in 1 run. His at-bat contributed to the Derry win.
Gámez called the triumph "a good team win."
The last-place Spuds hiked their record to 52-68.
