The Bay City Sugar Beets picked up a win at Birds' Nest of Alpena, downing the Alpena Partridges, 2-1. On the mound for Bay City was right-hander Fernando Cerda, who played a pivotal role in the win. The Sugar Beets are now 39-41, while the Partridges fall to 35-44.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Carmelo Olea came to bat in the top of the ninth. Facing Alpena pitcher Uranio Avitia, he hit a first pitch cutter for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting Bay City on top, 2-1.

"There was no wiggle room in this one," said Cerda.
