Superior Rallies to 4-3 Win
For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.

The Superior Whalebacks beat the Sault St. Marie Rapids, 4-3. Superior pitcher and Ponce, Puerto Rico, native Toribio Gamboa led the way. Gamboa yielded 3 runs over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 0, and struck out 6. His record improves to 9-7.

Up to bat in the bottom of the ninth, 29-year old second baseman Valeriano Luján had a chance to be the hero. Sault St. Marie pitcher Fernando Ramírez had other ideas. But with one out, Luján hit a sacrifice fly. The Whalebacks had themselves a dramatic win.

"If you ever get this game figured out," said Sault St. Marie manager Walter Daly, "let me know."

The 4th-place Whalebacks bumped their record to 31-49.
