The Mackinac Island Stone Skippers downed the Saginaw Joes, 4-1, at Bouncy House. Stellar pitching by Bernard Hawkins had a lot to do with it. The left-hander, who is tied for 2nd in the WGLA in quality starts with 16, handcuffed his opponent all game. Hawkins yielded 1 run over 9 innings to notch the win. He scattered 8 hits, walked 2, and struck out 4. His record improves to 11-9. The win makes Mackinac Island 46-36.

A critical at-bat came in the bottom of the seventh inning when the Stone Skippers sent 22-year-old designated hitter Joe Peters to the plate with the bases loaded. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a 2-run single, to put Mackinac Island on top, 4-1.

Peters called the win a test of his team's "mettle."
