The Meadville Zips rode a solid performance from 27-year-old starting pitcher Modesto Chávez to a win, beating the Erie Commodores, 2-1, at XYZ Stadium. In 9 innings, Chávez surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 1 run. Meadville is now 40-53, while Erie is 50-44.

A crucial at-bat came with the bases empty and one out in the bottom of the eighth inning. That's when third baseman Alfredo Pérez, who is tied for 2nd in the EGLA in bases on balls with 67, hit a double. The Zips went on to win.

"We're feeling good in this clubhouse right now after that one," Pérez told the Meadville Gazette.
