Pablo Cortés subdued the Meadville Zips, 3-0, pitching a 5-hit gem for the Norwalk Maples at Syrup Park.

"He was kind of teasing them with his off-speed stuff, and his fastball was moving everywhere," Norwalk skipper Dagoberto Jaso said.

Cortés registered 6 strikeouts and issued no walks in his superb performance.

"We just didn't swing the bats very well. Or else he just pitched good, whichever way you want to look at it," said Meadville manager Wayne Bryan after the defeat.

This season, Cortés has a 9-12 mark in 24 starts with a 2.88 ERA. He has given up 179 hits in 199.2 innings, struck out 101 and issued 81 walks. Opposing clubs have compiled a .247 batting average against him.
