Tulips Win Squeaker, 3-2, Over Blast Furnaces

For the home crowd, it was a thrilling walk-off win.
The Holland Tulips, despite a fine performance by Gary pitcher Nicolás Casas, grabbed a 3-2 win at Sunlit Garden. Casas allowed 1 run over 7 innings. The win belonged to Manuel Valdés in relief. His record improves to 5-3. Felipe González took the loss for Gary.
The Tulips were down to their last out in the bottom of the ninth inning, when 29-year old right fielder Miguel Ángel Chavarría landed a big blow. He turned a first pitch fastball from Felipe González into a 2-run single. The walk-off single sent the Sunlit Garden denizens into a frenzy and sent the Tulips home with a thrilling 3-2 win.
"Winning in the last at-bat, there's nothing else like it," said Chavarría.
The Tulips are now 53-41.
