Lilac Stockings Fall Short, 2-1, at Oswego
|
Jim Martin brought his A-game to help Oswego defeat the Rochester Lilac Stockings, 2-1. Martin got the win, improving to 12-11. He gave up 8 hits and walked 2 over 8.1 innings. He allowed 1 run. Javier Elías closed the door for Oswego, picking up his 11th save of the year.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Hydropathists had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when right fielder Ben Walcott hit a 2-run single. The single came off Martín Torres and made the score 2-0, Hydropathists. Walcott went 2 for 4 with a double. He drove in 2 runs.
"There's a lot in this game you can't control. Just take what the game gives you. I was just doing my best to help the team win," Walcott told the Oswego Daily.
The Hydropathists move to 51-58 with the win, while the Lilac Stockings drop to 54-56.
