New York Wins, Topping Philadelphia, 4-2
|
Bert Abbey, who is tied for 8th in the EL with a 3.9 K/9 rate, had a strong outing for the New York Giants against the Philadelphia Phillies at National League Park 1895-1909. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 4-2 win. Nick Auvenshine finished the game for New York and earned his 8th save. The Giants win now puts them at 28-22.
New York used a well-timed hit by Ted Easterly to capture the win. The catcher socked a 2-run double in the top of the fourth inning to put the Giants ahead, 3-1. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Bert kind of went out and dug down and got some outs when he needed to," said New York manager James Roseman.
