Big Day for Vargas as Hydropathists Down Lilac Stockings, 8-5
|
Ángel Vargas knocked in 4 runs to help Oswego beat Rochester, 8-5. Vargas produced 1 single and 1 home run. The winning pitcher was Ciriaco Méndez. His record now stands at 15-9. The right-hander went 8 innings, allowing 5 runs on 10 hits for the Hydropathists. The Hydropathists go to 60-63, putting them 4th in the Eastern Great Lakes Association League of Lake Ontario.
Oswego used the timely hitting of Kevin Walker to seize the win. The catcher stroked a 2-run single in the top of the ninth inning to put the Hydropathists on top, 7-5. It was his only hit in 4 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"It all depends on which version of our team shows up," said Vargas. "When we put it all together, I think we're a great team."
