The Bay City Sugar Beets trumped the Mackinac Island Stone Skippers, 5-4, at Candysweet Park. Bay City second baseman Mike Gant was terrific. He went 2 for 3 with a double and a walk. He scored 3 runs. Pablo Torres earned the save for Bay City, his 12th of the year. Bay City is now 49-79, Mackinac Island 67-64.

Carmelo Olea helped out the Bay City cause in the bottom of the sixth inning with a run-scoring double. For the game, the third baseman was 2 for 4 with 2 doubles.

"If we play like this, we can win a lot of games," Gant told the Bay City Daily.
