Starting pitcher Jorge Battistella did his part in helping the Guatire Heroes thwart the Maturin Petroleros, 3-1. The 5th-place Petroleros now sit at 51-49.

In the bottom of the third inning, center fielder Ananías Heredia had a run-scoring triple for Guatire. It was his 3rd triple of the season and put the Heroes on top, 2-1.

"Jorge did a tremendous job," said Guatire manager Dick McBride.
