Capitanes Move on to Campeonato de las Ligas
|
While it wasn't a complete mismatch, the Mayaguez Capitanes showed themselves to be the superior team in the Serie Interdivisional, downing the Isabela Quesiteros 4-2.
"Nothing is ever easy in the Liga Nacional Puertorriquena playoffs. Whether you're a favorite or an underdog, you can't take anyone lightly or you'll get burned," said Byron Wood, who was named series MVP after a standout offensive performance.
Mayaguez won the final game by a 3-0 count at Estadio Municipal de Isabela to clinch its spot in the next round.
They will hope to once again rely on Wood there, as he hit .429 with 0 home runs, 5 RBI 2 runs scored during the series.
The Mayaguez Capitanes will play against the Toa Baja Jinetes in the next round. Toa Baja won their series against the Barceloneta Marineros 4 games to 1. The Campeonato de las Ligas schedule will be announced after the Serie Interdivisional finishes.
