Raucous Estadio de Coro Crowd Propels Bizantinos to 5-3 Victory; Series Tied at 3
|
The Coro Bizantinos and the Puerto La Cruz Timoneles will take the Campeonato Nacional de Venezuela to a decisive 7th game. In a must-win situation, the Bizantinos beat the Timoneles, 5-3, at Estadio de Coro to force the series into what will essentially be a one-game playoff. Coro right-hander José Shaefer had a big role in the win. He threw 9.0 innings of 8-hit ball.
Had Adelmo Alcantar not delivered a key base hit in the bottom of the eighth, the outcome might have been different. Instead, with two down and runners on 2nd and 3rd, Alcantar hit a 2-run single. That made the score 5-3, in favor of the Bizantinos.
"Our guys are never satisfied," said Coro manager Pablo Moreno.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Estadio de Coro in Coro.
