Vásquez, Cotorras Take Dramatic Game 1 for 1-0 Series Lead
The Rio Grande Cotorras took the first game of the Serie Preliminar in dramatic fashion, topping the Penuelas Guiristas with a ninth-inning, walk-off, 1-0 shutout victory. Cotorras pitcher Ezequiel Vásquez threw 9.0 innings of shutout ball.


The clutch at-bat came in the bottom of the ninth inning, when Rio Grande pinch hitter Timón Terrazas, facing Heriberto Sánchez, had a run-scoring sacrifice fly. It gave the Cotorras the 1-0 win.

"I like our moxie," said Cotorras manager Serapión Gutiérrez.

The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Recinto Atlético del Noreste in Río Grande.
