Nance Blasts Insolentes, Cornupetas Take Game 3, 7-4
|
The Cayey Cornupetas moved to within one game of the Serie Eliminatoria, downing the visiting Fajardo Insolentes at La Plaza de Cayey by a score of 7-4. Cornupetas right fielder Kid Nance did some major damage. He was 1 for 2 with a home run and 2 walks, while scoring 2 times and driving in 2. The win gives the Cornupetas a 2-1 advantage in the best-of-5 Serie Preliminar.
One of the clutch hits for Cayey came from one of their biggest talents. In the bottom of the seventh with one out, Rubén Velásquez, who is a two-time All-Star, hit a run-scoring single to put the Cornupetas up, 4-3. For the game, the first baseman went 2-5 with 2 singles, while adding 2 RBI.
"Feels good to get the job done," Velásquez said after the game.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at La Plaza de Cayey in Cayey.
