Ponce Wins to Cut Utuado Lead to 2-1
|
The Ponce Senores defeated the Utuado Arribenos, 6-1, in Game 3 of the Serie Eliminatoria. The key to the win was starter Timoteo Muriel, who threw 8.0 innings allowing 1 run. The win narrows Ponce's deficit in the series to 2-1.
A critical at-bat came in the top of the seventh inning when the Senores sent 22-year-old catcher Archie Purse to the plate with runners on 1st and 3rd. The youngster shook off the pressure and hit a run-scoring single, to put Ponce on top, 3-1.
"It's a huge change in atmosphere versus last game," Muriel said after the win. "I feel like we're back in the mix now. We just can't let up."
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Coliseo Miguel Flores in Utuado.
