The Utuado Arribenos started the Campeonato de las Ligas in style, downing the visiting Juana Diaz Reyes at Coliseo Miguel Flores by a score of 15-5 to grab an early 1-0 lead in the best-of-7 series. Arribenos first baseman Jaime de Jesús went 2 for 3 with a home run, 2 walks, and was hit by a pitch, while scoring 2 and driving in 3.
An inflection point occurred with one out in the bottom of the fifth. That's when Arribenos catcher Luis Hernández hit a slider from Arjun Vipperla for a 2-run single. Just like that, Utuado was up, 5-4.
"You work hard, day in and day out, hoping to give the fans something to cheer about. Today was a good day," Hernández told the Utuado Today.
The next game is set to be played tomorrow at Coliseo Miguel Flores in Utuado.
