Cástico Reyna never let the Menestrales get in a groove. The right-hander used his bread and butter, his splitter, to pitch the Mercaderes to a win, 3-1. Reyna picked up the win for Villalba, going 6 innings. He gave up 1 run on 5 hits. He now sports a record of 9-10. Polideuco Quiros was credited with the save for Villalba, his 3rd of the season.
Villalba took advantage of an error in the top of the seventh inning. The game was tied, 1-1, when Gerardo Rodríguez hit a run-scoring single that was misplayed. It put the Mercaderes in front, 2-1.
"When you have a good rhythm and good flow, it's nice to just go out there and pound the strike zone with confidence," said Reyna.
Their 34-37 record puts the Mercaderes third in the Liga Hostos Metro Sur.
