Ejemplares Use Late Surge to Win
|
Dorado and Comerio put this game in the books despite some rain.
The Dorado Ejemplares rode a solid performance from 26-year-old starting pitcher Matt Kirby to a win, beating the Comerio Guabaleros, 3-1, at Estadio Tomás Morel. Kirby picked up the win for Dorado, going 8 innings. He gave up 1 run on 7 hits. He now sports a record of 8-6. Gerardo Marrufo earned the save for Dorado, his 2nd of the year.
Dorado used a clutch hit from Lope Vacio to get the win. The shortstop drilled a 2-run home run in the top of the eighth inning to put the Ejemplares ahead, 3-1. It was his only hit in 3 at-bats, but it was a game-changer.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Ejemplares manager Félix González, "I like our chances."
Dorado sits in first place in the Liga Betances Costa Norteña at 39-41.
