Late Offense Lifts Louisville to 2-1 Victory
|
The Louisville Colonels got a magnificent performance from pitcher Pink Hawley, who muffled the Cincinnati offense en route to a tight, 2-1 Colonels win at Eclipse Park II. The winning pitcher was Hawley, now 6-1. He tossed 9 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 2 and fanning 2. With the win, the Colonels have a record of 41-27.
Sammy Strang drove in one run for Louisville. With no one out and the game tied in the bottom of the eighth inning, Strang, who finished 5th in the WL in runs with 74 in 1904, had a clutch at-bat. Facing Cincinnati hurler George Mullin, he hit a sacrifice fly to give the Colonels a 2-1 lead.
"Tough loss," said Cincinnati manager Marshall Locke. "But we'll learn from it."
