The Cabo Rojo Combatientes took on the Penuelas Guiristas at Coliseo Armando Vargas.
Cabo Rojo pitcher Luis Sánchez had a large part in his team subduing the Penuelas Guiristas, 5-1. The opposition could never mount much of a rally against the right-hander. Sánchez, now 9-7, was the winner. In 7.1 innings, he gave up 5 hits, while striking out 6, walking 3, and allowing 1 run.
It could have been a different outcome for Cabo Rojo, had it not been for Julián Jerónimo, the 31-year old shortstop . Jerónimo contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Cabo Rojo up, 3-1.
Cabo Rojo manager Dick Hunt commended his team for exhibiting "no shortage of effort."
Cabo Rojo is now 49-42, Penuelas 49-39.
