Eager fans turned out for a matchup between the Mayaguez Capitanes and Barranquitas Ilustres.
Mayaguez pitcher Jesús Monge did his part in helping his team beat the Barranquitas Ilustres, 2-1. The right-hander kept opposing batters from doing too much damage. Mayaguez is now 54-41. Barranquitas is 45-49.
With scoring opportunities rare, the Capitanes had to cash in when they had the chance. One such opportunity presented itself in the bottom of the fifth, when first baseman Finley Train hit a run-scoring single. The single came off Dan Coleman and made the score 2-0, Capitanes. Train went 3 for 3 with a double and 2 singles.
"We took home the win," said Monge. "What's not to like?"
