Froilán Pequeño Gets Hit Number 1000
|
Froilán Pequeño's bat made good contact with the ball as he has many times in his career, but this time it added his name to an elite list of players with 1000 hits.
"This is a tremendous honor. You grow up dreaming of becoming a Liga Nacional Puertorriquena player, but never did I ever think I would get to this point," an emotional Pequeño said after the game.
The Anasco second baseman went to the plate 5 times and racked up 3 hits to gain the honor. But the Matadioses couldn't pull off a win -- they fell to the Barranquitas Ilustres, 2-1.
"It certainly would have been nice to have won, but tomorrow is another day. I'm going to enjoy this moment with my friends and family," Pequeño said.
Lifetime Pequeño has hit for a .282 average and totaled 1000 hits, 9 home runs and 456 RBIs.
