Combatientes 5-3 Winners Versus Vega Baja
|
The Cabo Rojo Combatientes defeated the Vega Baja Caneros, 5-3, in Liga Betances action at Estadio Juan Rodríguez. Cabo Rojo pitcher Mario Cordero had a standout performance. The winner was Cordero. He threw 8.2 innings of 6-hit ball. The loser was Cándido Rivera. Adrián Zaragoza earned the save, his 10th in 12 tries.
With Cabo Rojo leading 2-0 in the bottom of the second, Xavier Simmons hit a 2-run single off Vega Baja pitcher Cándido Rivera. It put the Combatientes ahead 4-0.
Cordero said afterward that "winning, obviously, is the main objective."
The first-place Combatientes, at 58-53, lead the Liga Betances Suroeste by 5 games.
