The Villalba Mercaderes topped the Cayey Cornupetas, 7-5, in Liga Hostos action at La Plaza de Cayey. The game was highlighted by the performance of Villalba pitcher Carlos Ortiz. Villalba reliever Polideuco Quiros picked up the win, while Sarpedón Rodríguez took the loss for Cayey. Villalba is in third place in the Liga Hostos Metro Sur with a record of 59-66.

Villalba used a timely hit from Medardo Cervantes to get the win. The first baseman stroked a run-scoring double in the top of the eighth inning to put the Mercaderes ahead, 4-3. It was his only hit in 5 at-bats, but it made an impact.

Ortiz told a Villalba Chronicle reporter that he felt "relieved" after the win.
