Libertadores Reel Off Another Win, 5-2
|
The rain could not dampen the enthusiasm of Guanajuato fans at Parque de la Libertad.
Modesto Valenzuela powered the Guanajuato Libertadores to a win over the Ciudad Juarez Nortenos. The final score was 5-2. The Guanajuato first baseman, who finished 4th in the LN in wins above replacement with 5.9 in 1911, was phenomenal. He stroked 2 extra-base hits, including 1 home run and 1 double. Nepomuceno Peña went 5.2 innings for Guanajuato to pick up the win. The right-hander was charged with 2 runs. He scattered 8 hits, while walking 1 and striking out 4. His record improves to 2-0.
The Libertadores got a big at-bat from shortstop Marcial Díaz. For the game, Díaz went 1-3 with a double and a walk. He drove in 2 runs. In the bottom of the second, with runners on 1st and 2nd, he stroked a run-scoring double. His 1st double of the season gave Guanajuato a 1-0 lead.
Díaz described the clubhouse as "strangely calm" after the game.
The win gives Guanajuato a record of 7-4.
